Authors of SC at the South Carolina State Library presents an Author Talk & Book Signing with award-winning genealogist Dr. Walter Curry in partnership with the Aiken County Public Library.

Dr. Curry will share his most recently published book, “The Thompson Family: Untold Stories from the Past (1830-1960).” The book contains several narratives, including a slave who purchased his freedom, a relative who served as a cook in the Confederate Army, a young relative who was tragically murdered, and a sharecropper who became a prominent soil conservationist. Overall, the book narrates the generational diversity of the Thompson family and the common themes of civic engagement, morality, virtue, struggle, and achievement. In 2019, Dr. Curry received the 2019 International African American Historical and Genealogy Society Book Award in the Non-Fiction Category-Genealogy for this book.

If you are unable to join in person, this author talk will be available via a livestream at this link: https://www.youtube.com/scstatelibrary

Books will be available for sale and signing at the library.
